Is The Arrow Pointing Down?

Sunday 5th, February

posted by: David Smith

Today we talked abut different world religions, and the uniqueness of Christianity.  In the Christian faith, the arrow goes down! It goes from God to us and hits the ground directly and completely.  Any attempts for us to make the arrow go up and meet it in the sky is unbelief!

This is the PowerPoint we looked at… Religions.pps

The sermon can be found here… Sermon

People Say: All Religions Are the Same!

Thursday 2nd, February

People Say…
All religions are basically the same. They all serve the same function, namely to meet God, and be better people. It doesn’t matter what brand or tradition or culture you were born in, the purpose is the same.
Is that true?
This week we will be looking at the world religions and asking if Christianity is even a religion at all! Check out this video to help you think about it… Why I Hate Religion
Come to think about it and get ways of talking about it with your friends. SUNDAY 10am

New Bible Challenge

Thursday 18th, August

posted by: David Smith

After the success of the Bible in 90 challenge, we’re going for something a little slower and a little more reflective.  It will be a reflective reading of Hebrews in 26 days with weekends off!
Hebrews is an interesting book whose genre is unclear.  It actually reads like a sermon. Jesus is the key figure as the mediator between God and humanity.
Why not join up now? The start date is 22 August.
More info and registration links here: http://www.parksidebaptist.org.au/Ministries/bible_reading_challenge/

Sermon Feedback on Twitter

Sunday 3rd, July

posted by: David Smith

Here’s something new: We’re trying out using Twitter to get some feedback on our sermons. During a message, some people would love to jump up and say, “Hey, what about…” but in the context of a sermon you may feel a little inhibited (not to mention the preacher’s reaction!)

But now you can pass your comments along to the preacher, and to others as the sermon is going.  I won’t be checking my phone as I preach, but I will afterwards, and will respond as best as I can.
Just include the #parkbc hashtag in your tweets. And you can follow me as well! @David_G_Smith

Men’s Trip to Epenarra

Thursday 19th, May

posted by: David Smith

Recently, six men from our church took a men’s trip to Central Australia to encourage one of our workers. David Blackman has served with Wycliffe/SIL translating the Bible into the Alyawarr language. Epenarra is in the heart of the Alyawarr region.
In Alice Springs we held a couple of men’s small group sessions with David. We aimed to encourage him, and each other in our roles of godly man and godly father.
We also ran a men’s night on the topic of fathering for the men of Alice Springs Baptist Church.
After that, David and his co-worker, David Strickland, guided us to Epenarra where we participated in the community and its small church.
The visit was an important for us as a team of men, and also important because we had previously financed a church structure for Epenarra as part of our own building programme.
We delivered a wooden cross made from timber from our old church.
The six men in our team were wholly impressed with the caliber of the two Davids who had both carved out years of their lives to serve in these communities.
