When we were in college we were asked to discuss if we could ask God for a green light if we were running late for an appointment. We all agreed that it sounded fair. Then the lecturer said, “Going the other way is a mother in labour driven by her husband to the hospital. Have you just created a red light for them?”
So, what do the farmers think of my prayer for fine weather?

ah but would they have fine weather there? When I’ve done road trips in the past, it’s so bizarre to be driving through pouring rain and then 20 minutes down the road go into full blown sunshine ?? It’s an interesting question though ... I’ve been reading a book called “prayer” by Philip Yancey ... which has a whole load of anecdotes and reflections contained in it as well about the concept ... and he asks a whole lot of questions that make you stop and think, hmmm, how does this whole prayer thing work? Are we supposed to be able to figure it out anyway? What’s the point of praying if God already knows what we’re going to ask? ...

I think that God enjoys letting us participate in what he’s doing. Like me trying to let my toddlers help mow my lawn! I could do it quicker and better, but there’s something more relational about getting the kids to help.
