<title>People Say: All Religions Are the Same</title>
<itunes:author>D. Smith</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Ephesians 2:8,9 Romans 5:8,9</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>People Say…
All religions are basically the same. They all serve the same function, to meet God and be better people. It doesn’t matter what brand or tradition or culture you were born in, they&#39;re just different ways of expressing the same truth.
Have you ever walked up a mountain and got to the top just to find a road and a carpark up there? There’s more than one way to get to the top. The climb gets you fit, so that’s better.	But the people in the car say the drive is easy and pleasant, so that’s better. The rock climbers say there’s no excitement in a drive or a walk, our way is better.
So the discussion about religions becomes about which is the best way to achieve the same goal?</itunes:summary>

&#45;	Get indignant when people can’t live up to our standards
&#45;	Develop the ability to make the demands sound good and holy.

Have you grown up like that

&#45;	And all it’s done, like Paul says, is show how sinful you are
&#45;	And make you think that God is disappointed in you.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>What evidences are there that we&#39;ve been with Jesus? Peter &amp; John faced up to the Sanhedrin with courage! I honour people’s courage for doing the right thing – when society’s Sanhedrin is telling you otherwise
&#45;	When you decide not to go out all night drinking and clubbing, turn up to church with a headache, while your friends sleep in
&#45;	When you decide not to sleep over at your boyfriend or girlfriend’s place, even though your friends think you’re crazy
&#45;	When you make a stand at work about how someone is being treated
Those things take courage…

But we busy ourselves in Advent, don’t we
&#45;	We call it the silly season
&#45;	Get busy buying things, planning things, creating the perfect Christmas
But in the midst of that, can we slow down? Can we wait?

What does God want to show us – in the wait
What does God want to teach us – in the wait
What does he want to say to us,
&#45;	build in us
&#45;	create in us
&#45;	that would never be there if we just rushed forward and tried to grab what we think is rightfully ours
Sometimes God says wait…</itunes:summary>

Western understanding is suffering = poop
&#45;	Not just senseless, but repugnant and disgusting. A toxic element of life to be avoided at all costs
When does it happen?
&#45;	Just happens
&#45;	Random and senseless, like a drive by shooting, taking out victims unexpectedly, without reason or provocation
So we end up with a western view that says that all suffering is toxic and there never is a reason for it.
&#45;	Now bring that into Christian circles and what have you got?
&#45;	A Jesus who fixes that
Like a cosmic ointment that cures all ills</itunes:summary>

Then he started to swear and curse like only a fisherman could, denying any association with him whatsoever, I swear to God…

And right then,

&#45;	To where our character is chiselled into that of Christ’s
&#45;	So that he is exalted in our bodies
